Overview

• Anita Alvarez, who nearly drowned during the 2022 FINA World Championships, has transitioned to a dual career as an elite athlete and U.S. Air Force service member.
• The artistic swimmer won a silver medal with Team USA at the Paris 2024 Olympics, marking her third Olympic appearance.
• After the Olympics, Alvarez joined the U.S. Air Force, completed basic training at Joint Base San Antonio–Lackland, and became a member of the World Class Athlete Program (WCAP).
• She is the first Olympic medalist and 15th Olympian to join the WCAP, which allows athletes to train while serving in the military.
• Alvarez is currently training for the 2025 World Championships in Singapore and aims to compete in the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles while continuing her Air Force career.
