One Dead, Several Injured in Fiery Collision Between Tanker Truck and Tram in Baden-Württemberg

A tanker carrying heating oil and a tram collided at an unprotected railway crossing near Karlsruhe, causing both vehicles to catch fire.

The collision occurred at around 2:15 PM on Landesstraße 552 near Zeutern, north of Karlsruhe, at an unprotected railway crossing.
One person was killed in the incident, while the tram driver and the tanker truck driver sustained severe injuries.
Three tram passengers suffered minor injuries, and a total of seven passengers were on board at the time of the crash.
The tanker truck was carrying heating oil, and the resulting fire produced a massive smoke plume, prompting a large emergency response with over 60 firefighters on site.
Authorities have closed the L552 in both directions for investigation and recovery efforts, as the exact cause of the collision remains under investigation.
