  • The Indian Coast Guard's Operation Olivia protected 6.98 lakh Olive Ridley turtles during their February 2025 nesting at Odisha's Rushikulya river mouth, setting a new conservation milestone.
  • Conducted annually from November to May, the mission ensures safe nesting grounds for turtles at key sites like Gahirmatha Beach and surrounding coastal areas of Odisha.
  • Since its inception, the operation has carried out over 5,387 surface patrols and 1,768 aerial surveillance missions, significantly reducing threats such as illegal fishing and habitat disruption.
  • In the latest cycle, 366 boats involved in illegal fishing were detained, highlighting the operation's robust enforcement measures to protect marine biodiversity.
  • The initiative also fosters community collaboration, promoting Turtle Excluder Devices and partnering with NGOs to support sustainable fishing practices and conservation education.
