Original E.T. Model from 1982 Film to Be Auctioned at Sotheby’s

The screen-used model, crafted by Carlo Rambaldi, is expected to sell for $600,000 to $900,000 during the March 21–April 3 event.

Sotheby’s auction, titled 'There Are Such Things: 20th Century Horror, Science Fiction and Fantasy on Screen,' will run from March 21 to April 3, 2025.
The original E.T. model, used in Steven Spielberg’s 1982 classic and featured in the iconic 'closet scene,' is estimated to fetch between $600,000 and $900,000.
The model is one of three created for the film and comes directly from the collection of Oscar-winning special effects artist Carlo Rambaldi.
Other items from Rambaldi’s collection, including sketches for E.T. and props from films like 'Dune' and 'Rex: A Dinosaur’s Story,' will also be auctioned.
The auction highlights the artistry of practical effects and Rambaldi’s contributions to cinema, with his daughter expressing hope that the pieces will inspire future generations.
