Paris Police Officer Charged in 2023 Death of Handcuffed Man

The officer is accused of fatally punching a 48-year-old Palestinian man during an arrest, with investigators citing severe head trauma as the cause of death.

The incident occurred on August 17, 2023, near Gare de l'Est in Paris, where Tamer Miskir, a 48-year-old Palestinian man, was arrested following a street altercation.
Police allege that Miskir, who was handcuffed and intoxicated, struck the officer with his head, prompting the officer to respond with multiple punches to Miskir's face.
Miskir lost consciousness during the ride to the police station, was later found unresponsive, and died on August 24, 2023, after a week in a coma.
An autopsy determined the cause of death to be severe craniofacial trauma, leading to the officer's January 11, 2024, indictment for 'violence resulting in death without intent.'
The officer, now under judicial supervision, is barred from contact with witnesses, co-defendants, and the victim's family, as well as from performing public-facing police duties.
