Pentagon Allocates $100 Million to Advance Generative AI in Defense

The Department of Defense (DoD) has established the AI Rapid Capabilities Cell (AI RCC) to accelerate the adoption of generative AI across military and administrative domains.
A $100 million budget has been allocated, with $75 million dedicated to AI pilot projects and $40 million earmarked for small businesses to develop scalable AI applications.
Four initial AI pilot projects will focus on warfighting and enterprise management, testing generative AI in areas like decision support, logistics, and operational planning.
The initiative includes the creation of digital 'sandboxes' for secure AI testing on government networks, with the first two launching by January 2025.
The AI RCC builds on insights from Task Force Lima and aims to address national security risks posed by adversaries' rapid AI adoption.
