Pitt Freshman Mason Alexander Dies at 18 in Tragic Car Accident

The promising football recruit was killed in his Indiana hometown after a vehicle collision resulted in a fiery crash.

Mason Alexander, an 18-year-old freshman cornerback for the University of Pittsburgh, died in a car accident on Saturday evening in Fishers, Indiana.
Alexander was a passenger in a 2016 BMW that swerved off the road to avoid a collision, struck a tree, and caught fire; he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office reported that the BMW attempted to pass another vehicle before veering off the road; the crash remains under investigation.
Alexander, a four-star recruit and ESPN Top 300 player, had recently enrolled at Pitt in January after graduating early from Hamilton Southeastern High School.
Pittsburgh head coach Pat Narduzzi and members of the football community expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing Alexander as a talented and positive individual who made a lasting impression in his short time with the program.
