The partnership supports a Japanese government initiative to advance autonomous driving technology, addressing a projected 36% shortfall in truck drivers by 2030.
Level 4 autonomous trucks will operate on Japan's expressways, beginning with trials on the Shin-Tomei Expressway.
Plus's AI-based virtual driver technology will integrate with TIER IV's open-source Autoware platform to create the customized system.
The collaboration leverages TIER IV’s experience with Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and Plus’s global expertise in autonomous trucking.
