Poland Indicts Russian-Spanish Man for Espionage After Prisoner Swap

Pavel Rubtsov, alias Pablo González, faces charges of spying for Russia and spreading disinformation while posing as a journalist.

Polish prosecutors formally indicted Rubtsov on August 9, accusing him of espionage from 2016 to 2022.
Rubtsov was released earlier this month as part of a prisoner exchange between Russia and the West.
He was arrested in February 2022 near the Ukrainian border, shortly after Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
Rubtsov allegedly provided intelligence to Russian military and engaged in operational reconnaissance.
Investigations are ongoing into several suspected co-conspirators, including a woman identified as Magdalena Ch.
