Pope Francis discharged from hospital following successful abdominal surgery; physician says pontiff 'better than before'

Pope Francis has left the hospital after undergoing a successful three-hour surgery to repair a hernia and remove painful scar tissue from previous operations.
The pontiff's surgeon reported no complications and said the pope is now in better shape than before the procedure.
Although Francis will keep his Sunday appearances and travels, he canceled his usual Wednesday audience to allow for recuperation.
The pope thanked medical staff, visited with patients, and prayed at a basilica before returning to the Vatican.
Despite dealing with various health issues, the pope has vowed to continue his papal duties as long as his mind remains clear.
