Portnoy posted a recording of the phone call, accusing the reporter of unethical journalism and trying to damage his reputation.
The Washington Post subsequently published an article criticizing Portnoy's past racist, misogynistic and problematic behavior.
Portnoy denied the accusations and accused the Post of biased reporting in a "hit piece."
The pizza festival sponsors have not indicated pulling their support despite some influencer criticism.
