Postal Strikes Disrupt Deliveries Across Germany as Labor Talks Stall

The Verdi union has expanded its postal strikes, causing significant delays in mail and package deliveries in multiple German cities, including Schwerin, Rostock, and Speyer.
Approximately 700,000 letters and 35,000 packages were left undelivered in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern alone on Friday, with similar disruptions expected on Saturday.
The strikes are part of an ongoing labor dispute in which Verdi is demanding a 7% wage increase over 12 months and additional vacation days for Deutsche Post employees.
Deutsche Post has countered with an offer of a 3.8% total wage increase over 27 months and one additional vacation day for some employees, which Verdi has rejected as insufficient.
The fourth round of negotiations is scheduled for Monday, with Verdi warning of further disruptions if no agreement is reached.
