Practice Torpedo Found on Gold Coast Beach After Months Missing

The Australian Defence Force has recovered an inert training torpedo discovered on Main Beach, with no threat to public safety reported.

A dog walker and surf lifesavers discovered the torpedo at Main Beach on the Gold Coast around 5:45am Thursday, prompting a police response.
Authorities established a 100-metre exclusion zone while the device, identified as an inert Australian Defence Force (ADF) training torpedo, was examined.
The torpedo had been missing since a recent ADF training exercise conducted off the Queensland coast several months ago.
Specialists from the ADF and Queensland Police safely recovered the device, which has now been returned to an ADF depot for further investigation.
The beach has since reopened, with officials urging the public to report any suspicious objects and avoid handling them.
