Prominent Sudanese-American doctor killed amid fighting in Khartoum

American doctor Bushra Ibnauf Sulieman was determined to continue providing medical care to the wounded in Sudan's capital despite fighting between rival factions.
Sulieman was killed in a robbery in his yard during looting that accompanied the fighting.
Sulieman was a respected doctor who divided his time between Iowa City, Iowa and Khartoum, Sudan.
He directed the medical faculty at the University of Khartoum and founded a doctors' humanitarian group.
Colleagues mourned the loss of Sulieman and the impact he had on thousands of Sudanese lives.
