Overview

  • Dr. Taware, already lodged at Yerwada Central Jail for a 2024 blood-sample tampering case, was taken into custody by the city crime branch on Thursday.
  • In May 2022, Pune police filed charges against 15 individuals, including Ruby Hall Clinic officials, over a kidney transplant procedure with irregular donor approvals.
  • Investigators allege a woman from Kolhapur posed as a patient’s spouse to donate her kidney and later disclosed her true identity during a payment dispute.
  • The scheme reportedly involved a paired swap where the transplant candidate’s mother donated a kidney to the intended male patient after blood-group mismatches emerged.
  • As head of the Regional Authorisation Committee in 2022, Taware authorized the contested transplants and now faces fresh legal action in the ongoing investigation.
