Jung fractured his thumb when he knocked down a line drive off the bat of Miami Marlins' Jorge Soler.
Jung's X-ray revealed the fracture, and he will see a specialist for further evaluation.
Jung was named an All-Star Game starter and leads all AL rookies in several statistical categories.
Infielder Jonathan Ornelas was recalled from Triple-A to take Jung's place on the active roster.
