Rare Footage of JFK Motorcade After Assassination Sells for $137,500

The 8mm home film, capturing the motorcade rushing to the hospital, was discovered in 2010 and auctioned to an anonymous buyer.

  • The film was recorded by Dale Carpenter Sr. on November 22, 1963, and shows the presidential motorcade speeding towards Parkland Memorial Hospital after John F. Kennedy was shot.
  • The footage, which lasts about 10 seconds, includes Secret Service Agent Clint Hill standing on the back of the limousine to protect Jacqueline Kennedy.
  • Carpenter initially missed filming the president's limousine and later captured the motorcade on Interstate 35 after the shots were fired.
  • The film was found by Carpenter’s grandson, James Gates, in a milk crate in 2010 and was auctioned by RR Auction in Boston.
  • Historians consider the footage an important addition to the documentation of the events surrounding JFK's assassination.
