  • The Reserve Bank of India announced the forthcoming issuance of Rs 20 banknotes bearing the signature of Governor Sanjay Malhotra.
  • These new notes will retain the design, dimensions, and security features of the Mahatma Gandhi (New) Series, including the Ellora Caves motif on the reverse side.
  • All previously issued Rs 20 banknotes, regardless of the governor's signature, will remain valid and continue to be legal tender.
  • The issuance of notes with the incumbent governor's signature is a routine statutory requirement following leadership changes at the RBI.
  • Banknotes are printed at four currency presses across India, while distribution is managed via 2,691 currency chests operated by authorized banks.
