Record High Gun Ownership in U.S. Households, NBC News Poll Shows

The poll reveals a significant increase in gun ownership across party lines and a near doubling among Black voters since 2019.

52% of Americans now report that they or someone in their household owns a gun, the highest percentage since NBC News began polling this question in 1999.
Gun ownership has increased across party lines, with 66% of Republicans, 45% of independents, and 41% of Democrats reporting gun ownership in their households.
Black gun ownership has nearly doubled since 2019, with 41% of Black voters now reporting gun ownership in their households.
Views on gun control remain split, with 48% of respondents expressing concern that the government is not regulating access to firearms enough, and 47% worrying that authorities will go too far in gun restrictions.
The poll was conducted by Public Opinion Strategies, a Republican polling firm, and Hart Research, a Democratic polling firm, surveying 1,000 registered voters with a margin of error of plus-or-minus 3.1 percentage points.
