Brimin Misoi of Kenya won the men's race with a record time of 2:06:18, the fastest ever recorded in Australia.
Workenesh Gurmesa of Ethiopia led an Ethiopian sweep in the women's race, finishing in a record 2:21:41.
Madison de Rozario claimed victory in the women's wheelchair race, just days after competing in the Paris Paralympics.
Canadian Joshua Cassidy won the men's wheelchair race with a time of 1:38:35.
The Sydney marathon saw a record participation of 25,000 runners and is aiming to join the World Marathon Majors series.
