Rep. George Santos to Seek Reelection Regardless of Expulsion Outcome, While House Ethics Committee Prepares to Release Investigation Results

Facing 23 federal charges including fraud and identity theft, and after admitted fabrications of his education and work history, Rep. George Santos's resolve to run for re-election in 2024 doesn't waver as House Ethics Committee wraps up its probe with results expected by November 17.

  • Despite facing 23 federal charges including fraud and identity theft, Rep. George Santos is determined to run in the 2024 election. He insists that his fabricated past will not influence voters and states that they did not elect him based on his biography.
  • The House Ethics Committee is set to release its investigation results by November 17th. This investigation includes allegations of financial disclosure violations, conflict of interest in relation to a fiduciary services firm, and sexual misconduct.
  • Democratic Rep. Jamie Raskin, who voted against expelling Santos from Congress, edited Santos' thank-you letter for voting against his expulsion. Despite defending his stance on not expelling Santos from Congress, Raskin advised him that resigning would not be shameful.
  • The vote to expel Santos fell short of the two-thirds majority needed. 24 of Santos' fellow Republicans voted against him, and the vote ended with 179 votes for, 213 against, and 19 voting present. Santos' expulsion may still occur if the House Ethics Committee recommends it after their investigation concludes.
  • Santos' ex-campaign treasurer Nancy Marks has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to defraud the United States. The allegations state that Santos and Marks knowingly filled Federal Election Commission documents with false information.
