Repeat DUI Offender Sentenced to 23 Years for Fatal Crash

The sentencing follows a tragic accident that claimed the lives of a father and son en route to college orientation.

Leslie Gehret, 41, was sentenced to over 23 years in prison for a DUI crash that resulted in the deaths of Shane Lloyd, 50, and his son Jakob Lloyd, 19, in July 2023.
The crash occurred while the Lloyd family was on their way to the University of Central Florida for Jakob's college orientation.
Gehret, who had three prior DUI convictions, was driving nearly 90 miles per hour and had a suspended license at the time of the accident.
Tests conducted five hours after the crash showed Gehret's blood alcohol content was above the legal limit.
The sentencing includes 280 months in prison, 12 months of probation, 50 hours of community service, DUI school, and a permanent driver's license suspension.
