Republican Arizona Lawmaker Ousted for Promoting Conspiracy Theories After Bipartisan Vote to Expel

The Arizona House of Representatives expelled Representative Liz Harris, a Republican, for inviting a speaker who spread baseless accusations of bribery and election rigging during a committee hearing.
Harris was the third state lawmaker removed from office this year and the first Arizona legislator expelled since 2018.
Harris had previously promoted the discredited QAnon conspiracy theory and authored a report alleging widespread voter fraud in 2020 that was deemed false by election officials.
The Arizona House Ethics Committee found that Harris had violated legislative rules and undermined public trust in the institution, leading to the rare bipartisan vote to expel a sitting lawmaker.
Harris's replacement will be chosen by Republican precinct leaders and county officials and restores the GOP's slim majority needed to pass legislation along party lines.
