Republican Governors Deploy National Guard Troops to Southern Border

In response to requests from Texas Governor Greg Abbott, Republican governors have announced sending National Guard troops and other personnel to support border security efforts.
Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin is sending 100 National Guard soldiers and support staff for a 30-day deployment at a cost of $3.1 million.
The troops will be under military command and provide support to Texas' Operation Lone Star to reduce illegal drug and human trafficking.
South Carolina and Florida have also announced plans to send National Guard troops and state law enforcement to the border.
The moves have been praised by some Republicans but criticized by Democrats as political posturing.
