Taking effect immediately, the policy elevates retiring constables through sub-inspectors who have maintained spotless five-year service records.

Overview

  • The Ministry of Home Affairs will grant an honorary rank one level higher on the retirement day to personnel below officer rank in CAPFs and Assam Rifles.
  • The symbolic promotion carries no additional financial or pension benefits and does not alter existing seniority within the forces.
  • Eligibility requires fulfillment of all promotion norms at retirement, a minimum ‘Good’ rating in APAR for the past five years, and no major disciplinary actions.
  • Each honorary rank must align with the individual’s category and is conferred only upon recommendation by the commanding officer.
  • The initiative, effective May 29 under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership and guided by Home Minister Shah, is designed to recognize frontline service and bolster troop morale.
