Rivian Rolls Out Hands-Free Driving and Rally Mode in Major Software Update
The update introduces Enhanced Highway Assist for Gen 2 vehicles, a new Rally drive mode, and several quality-of-life improvements.
- Rivian's Enhanced Highway Assist allows hands-free driving on 135,000 miles of compatible highways in the US and Canada, requiring drivers to maintain attention using an infrared camera system.
- The hands-free system is currently available for Gen 2 R1T and R1S vehicles, with plans to expand to more roads later this year and introduce a hands-off, eyes-off feature in 2026 under controlled conditions.
- A new Rally Mode is now available for Dual-Motor Performance vehicles, enhancing throttle response and steering for off-road terrains like mud, dirt, and ice.
- Owners of Dual-Motor Rivians can purchase a $5,000 Performance Upgrade, unlocking 665 horsepower, 829 lb.-ft. of torque, and three additional drive modes: Sport, Rally, and Soft Sand.
- Other updates include side mirror auto-tilt for better visibility while reversing, tire puncture detection, customizable wheel size settings, and remote charge port door control via the mobile app.
