Roof Collapse at University of Pittsburgh Party Injures

An overcrowded porch roof gave way during a large St. Patrick's Day celebration, leaving three people seriously injured and prompting an investigation.

  • The incident occurred Friday evening on Semple Street in Oakland, near the University of Pittsburgh campus.
  • Approximately 300-500 partygoers were present in the courtyard when the porch roof, crowded with around 22 people, collapsed.
  • Sixteen individuals were injured, with three in serious but stable condition and the rest treated for minor injuries, including concussions and fractures.
  • Emergency responders condemned the porch structure but deemed the residential building itself safe for occupancy.
  • Authorities are investigating the cause of the collapse and have reminded the public of the dangers of overcrowding rooftops.
