Russian Drone Strikes on Ukraine Kill Seven, Including Child, Before Ceasefire Talks

Massive overnight attacks targeted Kyiv and other regions, causing civilian casualties and destruction despite a limited ceasefire agreement.

  • Russian drone attacks killed seven people, including a five-year-old child in Kyiv, and injured many others across multiple Ukrainian regions.
  • The strikes caused fires in residential buildings and significant damage in Kyiv, as well as in Kharkiv, Sumy, Chernihiv, Odesa, and Donetsk.
  • Ukraine intercepted 97 of the 147 drones launched by Russia, with another 25 failing to reach their targets, according to Ukrainian officials.
  • The attacks occurred ahead of U.S.-mediated ceasefire talks in Saudi Arabia, which aim to address long-range strikes on energy and civilian infrastructure.
  • Ukrainian President Zelenskyy called for stronger sanctions and additional air defense systems, while civilians expressed skepticism about the prospects for peace.
