Salmonella Outbreak Linked to Cantaloupes in 15 States and Canada

CDC reports 43 cases, including 17 hospitalizations, and recalls multiple brands of cantaloupes and fruit products.

  • 43 cases of salmonella infection have been reported in 15 states and in Canada, with 17 hospitalizations.
  • The salmonella outbreak is linked to whole and pre-cut cantaloupes, including Malichita brand whole cantaloupes from Mexico and Vinyard brand pre-cut cantaloupe and fruit products sold in Oklahoma.
  • ALDI stores have recalled whole and pre-cut cantaloupe and fruit products sold in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan and Wisconsin.
  • The products were sold between October 16 and November 10, and consumers are advised to throw away any of the recalled products they have at home.
  • The CDC is advising people to seek medical attention if they develop symptoms of severe illness such as bloody diarrhea, high fever or dehydration.
