Search for Missing Carnival Cruise Passenger Tyler Lee Barnett Suspended

Family insists Barnett slipped accidentally, contradicting surveillance footage that shows him jumping off the ship.

Tyler Lee Barnett, 28, was reported missing from a Carnival cruise ship on Monday, just one day after the ship embarked on a weeklong journey from New Orleans.
The US Coast Guard suspended its search for Barnett on Thursday after scouring more than 5,600 square miles of the Gulf of Mexico without success.
Surveillance footage showed Barnett climbing onto a lifeboat and then jumping off the side of the ship, according to Carnival representatives.
Barnett's family insists that he slipped accidentally, and did not jump intentionally.
The search was conducted under severe weather conditions, including up to 12-foot waves, limited visibility and gale force winds.
