Senator Elizabeth Warren has written to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg demanding transparency and information on allegations of the company suppressing pro-Palestinian content on its platforms.
Warren cited reports of users experiencing restrictions or removal of posts related to Palestine, with some accounts being entirely suspended.
Meta previously attributed these removals to glitches in its systems, but an independent analysis commissioned by the company in 2021 found that it had violated Palestinian human rights by censoring content related to previous Israeli attacks on Gaza.
Warren's letter also highlights a report revealing that Meta had implemented a measure that automatically flagged posts about Palestine at a higher rate, reducing the threshold for content suppression.
Warren has requested answers to her questions by January 5, 2024.
