Overview

• The SIT of the Chief Minister’s Vigilance Cell subjected senior Congress leader Ripun Bora to a six-hour interrogation on May 29 over his public defence of APCC president Gaurav Gogoi.
• Bora said investigators questioned him about his statements and any evidence he held regarding Gogoi’s alleged links to Pakistan.
• He recommended that the SIT summon Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and BJP MLA Diganta Kalita to clarify their claimed knowledge of Gogoi’s purported 2013 visit to Pakistan.
• The ongoing probe is examining allegations that Gogoi travelled to Pakistan on an ISI invitation and that his British wife, Elizabeth Colburn, collaborated with a Pakistani national to gather classified documents.
• Gogoi has branded the accusations as baseless political smear tactics and awaits the SIT’s findings ahead of its September 10, 2025 deadline and the 2026 Assam Assembly elections.
