SIT Summons SP MP Zia Ur Rehman Barq in Sambhal Violence Probe

Barq has confirmed receipt of the notice and pledged full cooperation as investigations continue into the November 2024 violence at the Shahi Jama Masjid.

• The Uttar Pradesh SIT has issued a notice to Samajwadi Party MP Zia Ur Rehman Barq under Section 35(3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, summoning him for questioning.
• Barq is accused of instigating violence during a court-ordered survey of Sambhal's Shahi Jama Masjid on November 24, 2024, which left four dead and several injured, including police personnel.
• While the SIT initially failed to serve the notice at Barq's Sambhal residence, it later delivered it to him in New Delhi at his parliamentary hostel.
• Barq has publicly confirmed receipt of the notice and assured full cooperation with the investigation, maintaining his stance that the incident was pre-planned and targeted against Muslims.
• The investigation also includes FIRs against 800 individuals, with authorities scrutinizing Barq’s communications and previous statements to determine his role in the unrest.
