Southern Pudu Fawn Debuts at Queens Zoo

The world's smallest deer species, native to South America, is now on display in New York City.

The southern pudu fawn was born on June 21, weighing just 2 pounds.
It will grow to weigh 15-20 pounds and stand 14-17 inches tall.
The species is listed as near-threatened due to habitat loss and invasive species.
Queens Zoo participates in breeding programs to maintain genetic diversity.
Eight pudu fawns have been born at the zoo since 2005.
