The Ovzon 3, launched on a Falcon 9 rocket, is set to be the most powerful GEO satellite, covering one-third of the Earth.

  • SpaceX successfully launched a Falcon 9 rocket carrying the Ovzon 3, the first privately funded Swedish satellite.
  • The Ovzon 3 satellite will operate in geostationary orbit, about 22,200 miles above the Earth, and is expected to be fully operational by mid-2024.
  • This was the second launch for SpaceX in 2024, following a Starlink mission that lifted off from California.
  • The Ovzon 3 is also the most powerful GEO satellite ever put into orbit, covering one-third of the Earth with its steerable spot beams.
  • The Falcon 9's first-stage booster, on its 10th flight, and the fairing halves returned to Earth for reuse in future missions.
