Spain’s BBVA to Launch Bitcoin and Ethereum Trading for Private Banking Clients
The bank has secured regulatory approval to offer cryptocurrency trading, initially targeting private banking customers in Spain.
- Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria (BBVA), Spain's second-largest bank, will enable private banking clients to trade Bitcoin and Ethereum via its app.
- The service will first be available to a small group of users and gradually expand to all private banking customers in Spain.
- BBVA received approval from Spain’s securities regulator, CNMV, following compliance with the EU's Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA).
- The bank has previously launched similar cryptocurrency services in Switzerland and Turkey, also limited to private banking clients.
- BBVA’s move reflects a growing trend among European banks to integrate cryptocurrency services, supported by clearer regulatory frameworks like MiCA.
