Sri Lanka Dismisses Cricket Board amid Poor World Cup Performance, Appoints Interim Committee Led by Former Captain

Following a poor performance in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, Sri Lanka has dismissed its cricket board and appointed an interim committee to take its place.
Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe labelled the governing body, Sri Lanka Cricket, as 'traitorous and corrupt' and urged the board members to resign in response to the unsuccessful World Cup campaign.
The secretary of Sri Lanka Cricket, Mohan de Silva, who holds the second-highest position on the board, resigned amidst protests by fans in front of the cricket board headquarters.
The newly appointed interim committee that replaced the dismissed board members is chaired by Arjuna Ranatunga, a former cricket captain who led Sri Lanka to a World Cup victory.
Besides Ranatunga, the seven-member interim committee comprises two retired Supreme Court judges and is tasked with conducting an investigation into the allegations of corruption and irregularities within the board.
