The Swiss player won his first major title at the Australian Open in 2014, defeating Rafael Nadal in the final, and has a 43-17 career record at the tournament.
Wawrinka, now ranked 161 in the world, has struggled with injuries in recent years but expressed gratitude for the opportunity to compete in Melbourne again.
Nine players received wild cards, including Australian Ajla Tomljanovic and Chinese veteran Zhang Shuai, with additional entries to be announced later.
The 2025 Australian Open will take place from January 12-26, marking Wawrinka’s 19th appearance at the tournament.
