Stolen Artworks from MLK Memorial in Denver Recovered

Police seek suspects after bronze pieces sold as scrap metal; theft not considered bias-motivated.

Three bronze artworks and seven additional pieces from a nearby fountain, stolen from Denver's Martin Luther King Jr. memorial, have been recovered after being sold as scrap metal.
Denver Police are seeking two suspects in connection with the theft, with one identified as 67-year-old Herman Duran.
The thefts, initially investigated as bias-motivated, are now believed not to be bias-related as the items were sold as scrap.
A large plaque depicting Black military veterans and other significant pieces were among the items recovered.
The recovered artworks have been returned to Denver Arts & Venues, which manages the monuments.
