Substitute Teacher Arrested for Indecent Exposure in Classroom

  • Stephen Canciani, a 32-year-old substitute teacher, was arrested on charges of indecent exposure and annoying or molesting a child after allegedly exposing himself to a class of sixth graders at Anderson Middle School in Shasta County, California.
  • The incident came to light after two students reported to a vice principal that Canciani was exposing his bare buttocks in class. The vice principal confirmed the situation and immediately ordered Canciani to leave the school.
  • Canciani peacefully surrendered to the Anderson Police Department and was booked into the Shasta County Jail. He was released as of Wednesday afternoon.
  • District Superintendent Jason Provence praised the students who reported the incident and assured that Canciani would no longer be allowed to work in the Cascade Union Elementary School District.
  • Counseling will be provided for students disturbed by the incident.
