Supreme Court Delegation Launches Relief Efforts for Displaced in Manipur

Justice BR Gavai and five other judges visit relief camps, inaugurate aid programs, and call for communal harmony in the violence-stricken state.

A delegation of six Supreme Court judges, led by Justice BR Gavai, visited relief camps in Churachandpur, Manipur, to support internally displaced persons (IDPs).
The delegation launched legal aid clinics, medical camps, and welfare programs to provide essential services and connect IDPs with government benefits.
Justice Gavai, as Executive Chairman of NALSA, announced ₹2.5 crore in additional relief funding, building on ₹1.5 crore previously allocated.
Over 250 people have died and thousands have been displaced since ethnic violence erupted in May 2023 between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities.
Congress MP Jairam Ramesh criticized the central government’s delayed response and urged Prime Minister Modi to visit Manipur to foster reconciliation.
