Suspicious Fire Engulfs Historic Building in Old Montreal

A major fire broke out in a century-old building, prompting a large-scale firefighting response and police investigation.

The fire started around 2 a.m. in a three-storey building at the corner of Notre-Dame and Bonsecours streets.
Approximately 125 firefighters and 50 trucks were deployed to battle the blaze, which remains under investigation.
One person is in critical condition due to burns, while two others were treated for shock at the scene.
Building owner Émile-Haim Benamor also owned a nearby property where a deadly fire occurred in March 2023.
Residents from adjacent buildings were evacuated and are receiving support from the Red Cross.
