Suspicious Fire Engulfs Historic Building in Old Montreal

A major fire broke out in a century-old building, prompting a large-scale firefighting response and police investigation.

  • The fire started around 2 a.m. in a three-storey building at the corner of Notre-Dame and Bonsecours streets.
  • Approximately 125 firefighters and 50 trucks were deployed to battle the blaze, which remains under investigation.
  • One person is in critical condition due to burns, while two others were treated for shock at the scene.
  • Building owner Émile-Haim Benamor also owned a nearby property where a deadly fire occurred in March 2023.
