Teenager Charged with Armed Carjacking of FBI Agent in Washington, D.C.

Devonta Lynch, identified as a member of the Area 71 gang, was arrested following an anonymous tip; the investigation continues as second suspect remains at large.

  • Devonta Lynch, a 17-year-old from southeast Washington, D.C., was arrested and charged as an adult with armed carjacking of an FBI agent.
  • The carjacking occurred on Nov. 29 as the off-duty agent was getting out of her vehicle; the suspects fled in the agent’s vehicle, which was later recovered.
  • Lynch was identified as the driver from surveillance footage and an anonymous tip suggested he and the other suspect were members of the Area 71 gang.
  • FBI-issued ammunition was found at Lynch's home during his arrest; he had been suspended from school on the day of the carjacking.
  • The case remains under investigation as the second suspect has not been identified or apprehended; a joint reward of up to $20,000 is being offered for information leading to arrest and conviction.
