Texas Congressman Carjacked at Gunpoint in DC as City Sees Surge in Violent Crime

Democratic Rep. Henry Cuellar was carjacked at gunpoint by three armed assailants in Washington, D.C.'s Navy Yard area on Monday night.
Cuellar was unharmed but had his vehicle, phone, iPad and food stolen before police recovered them hours later.
The carjacking occurred near Capitol Hill where other members of Congress live amidst a surge in violent crime in D.C.
D.C. has seen a 250% increase in carjackings over the past five years, with over 750 reported so far in 2022.
Mayor Muriel Bowser and President Biden have pledged support for law enforcement and efforts to reduce crime in the wake of the incident.
