Three San Antonio Police Officers Charged With Murder After Fatal Shooting of Woman in Mental Health Crisis

Three San Antonio police officers have been charged with murder after fatally shooting Melissa Ann Perez, a 46-year-old woman, in her apartment.
Perez was experiencing a mental health crisis and allegedly approached the officers while brandishing a hammer.
The officers, who have 14, 5 and 2 years of experience, have been suspended without pay pending investigations into their actions.
Their actions were deemed not consistent with department policy and training according to Police Chief William McManus.
Separate investigations into Perez's death are being conducted by the police department's internal affairs unit, its shooting team and the district attorney's civil rights division.
