Three Southern University Students Charged in Hazing Death of Caleb Wilson

The 20-year-old engineering student and band member died after being repeatedly punched during a fraternity pledging event.

Caleb Wilson, a 20-year-old Southern University student, died on February 27 after sustaining fatal injuries during a hazing incident while pledging Omega Psi Phi fraternity.
Three students—Caleb McCray, Isaiah Smith, and Kyle Thurman—have been charged in connection with Wilson's death, with McCray facing manslaughter and criminal hazing charges.
Police allege Wilson and other pledges were punched multiple times with boxing gloves at an off-campus warehouse, causing Wilson to collapse and later die in the hospital.
Authorities say no one called 911 to assist Wilson, who was transported to the hospital unresponsive by Smith in altered clothing and left by the group before police arrived.
Southern University has suspended all membership intake activities for student organizations, and the Omega Psi Phi chapter has been ordered to cease operations as the investigation continues.
