Top 1% of Americans Reach Record $44.6 Trillion in Wealth

Fueled by a historic stock market rally, the wealthiest Americans saw a $2 trillion increase in the final quarter of 2023.

The top 1% of Americans, defined as those with more than $11 million in assets, saw their wealth increase by $2 trillion in the fourth quarter of 2023.
This wealth surge is largely attributed to significant gains in the stock market, with key indexes like the S&P 500, Dow, and Nasdaq recording historic highs.
Consumer confidence in the U.S. reached its highest level since July 2021, driven by optimism that inflation will continue to soften.
While the wealthiest Americans benefit from the stock market boom, the bottom 50% of wealth holders saw a much smaller increase, adding only $200 billion in the entire year.
The wealth gap between the top 1% and the rest of the population continues to widen, with the top 1% now owning half of all individually held stocks.
