Top NBA Draft Pick Wembanyama to FIBA World Cup, Focus on Rookie Season

Victor Wembanyama will not play for France in the FIBA World Cup this summer so he can prepare for his first NBA season with the San Antonio Spurs.
Wembanyama made the decision after consulting with friends, his medical team, and Spurs coach Gregg Popovich.
Wembanyama still plans to play in the NBA Summer League in July but wants to limit games to focus on development and health.
France is expected to still compete as a favorite at the World Cup without Wembanyama.
Wembanyama intends to play for France at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
