Traffic trials for new Dwarka Expressway tunnels to begin May 29

The three-hour trial will assess how the 5.1-kilometre tunnels to IGI Airport, National Highway 48 affect peak-time congestion

Overview

  • The NHAI will conduct traffic trials on May 29 from 12 pm to 3 pm to test the new tunnel links on the Dwarka Expressway
  • The tunnel system comprises a 3.6-kilometre, eight-lane bore to IGI Airport and a 1.5-kilometre, two-lane connector to NH-48
  • Two-wheelers, three-wheelers, water and gas tankers, tractors with trolleys and other slow-moving vehicles are barred during the trial phase
  • The ₹9,000-crore, 29-kilometre Dwarka Expressway project includes 23 kilometres of elevated road and a 4-kilometre tunnel from Shiv Murti to the airport
  • Commuters are advised to follow new route diversions on NH-48 and use the tunnel for faster access to IGI Airport
