Tuhin Kanta Pandey Appointed as SEBI Chairman for Three-Year Term

The former finance secretary succeeds Madhabi Puri Buch, SEBI's first female chairperson, as her tenure concludes.

Tuhin Kanta Pandey, a 1987 batch IAS officer from the Odisha cadre, has been appointed as the 11th chairman of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI).
Pandey's appointment, approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, is for an initial three-year term starting February 28, 2025.
He replaces Madhabi Puri Buch, who made history as SEBI's first female chairperson and served a three-year term from March 2022 to February 2025.
Pandey has extensive experience in public finance, economic policy, and privatisation, including leading the disinvestment of Air India and drafting the new Income Tax Bill.
His tenure begins as SEBI navigates challenges in the capital markets, including significant withdrawals by foreign institutional investors in recent months.
